Comedy Barn: 5K Kickin’ Chicken Run To Benefit Children’s Charities

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Aug. 6, 2013) – The Comedy Barn Theater will sponsor the first annual Kickin’ Chicken 5K Run/Fun Walk for Children’s Charities on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.

The net proceeds will benefit Cherish the Child, Smoky Mountain Children’s Home and Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center.

According to its website, “Cherish the Child Foundation, founded in 2004, is a non-profit organization whose sole mission and purpose is to provide financial assistance and increased public awareness for the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, Tenn.  The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, founded in 1920, continues to be the largest residential childcare facility in the state of Tennessee.  The children’s home provides therapeutic residential care for abused, dependent, neglected and other at risk youth without regard for race, religion, ethnic origin or economical status.”

Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center provides comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate services to victims of child abuse.

Race registration for the Kickin’ Chicken Run will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Comedy Barn Theater on the Parkway, and the race will start at 8 a.m. at the Comedy Barn.

The route is through the Pigeon Forge Riverwalk Greenway as well as on the Parkway, and the race finishes back at the Comedy Barn.

The race registration fee is $20 until Aug. 12. Forms can be picked up from The Comedy Barn Theater® or people can register on line. The registration cost after Aug. 12 is $25.  There will be a silent auction at the race and refreshments after the race.

“We are all about children at the Comedy Barn,” said Clyde Foley Cummins, race director and performer at the Comedy Barn Theater . “We want to give back to the community.  Nothing is more worthy than child causes.  We are promoting fun and health.”

Prizes for the race include lodging and ticket packages from SeePigeonForge.com to Fee/Hedrick shows, including tickets to the Comedy Barn show. Winners in each age division will receive medals and tickets to the Comedy Barn.
