Old Forge Distillery To Celebrate Synchronous Fireflies With Special Release

(Pigeon Forge, Tennessee) – In celebration of the synchronous fireflies, an annual natural phenomenon in the Great Smoky Mountains, Old Forge Distillery is releasing a special edition White Lightnin’ Bug Moonshine. A distillery exclusive and limited release, White Lightnin’ Bug comes in at 140 proof and features a glow-in-the-dark label.

Synchronous Fireflies can be seen in the Elkmont area of the Great Smoky Mountains annually during a two-week mating season from late May to early June. In an amazing display of natural beauty, tens of thousands of fireflies light up in harmony, illuminating the woods and dazzling all who are fortunate to witness.

“The fireflies, or lightnin’ bugs as they’re called around here, put on a breathtaking light show this time of year,” said Keener Shanton, Head Distiller of Old Forge Distillery. “Our limited edition White Lightnin’ Bug Moonshine is a nod to their synchronized dances and the mason jars we used to catch them in. The label glows! So, whether you choose to use this jar as a nightlight, or to enhance your nightlife, let our overproof White Lightnin’ Bug Moonshine show you the way.”

In a nod to the spirited bugs that have inspired White Lightnin’ Bug Moonshine, Old Forge is also donating a portion of the proceeds to Friends of the Smokies to benefit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. “We are thrilled to be able to give back to our great park that has given us so much,” says Keener.

White Lightnin’ Bug is a 140 proof distillery exclusive moonshine distilled from a combined grain bill of corn, barley, wheat, and rye. Just like the fireflies in Elkmont, this is a limited release product with only a few hundred bottles available for a limited time.
